Garage Style Guide: 2. Technology

Whilst many may feel that the garage is all about creating the perfect home for your tools, equipment and car, because of the untapped space that it provides, the garage has the potential to be so much more.

From a simple car workshop to a beautifully styled room that’s the reflection of your lifestyle, this once forgotten room can now provide so much more than you may have ever considered. As part of this full transformation process, there are now a wide range of smart technology devices that will take your garage and bring it right into the 21st century.

To give you an indication of some of the technology that is available for your garage, we’ve taken the opportunity to review 5 of the most unique pieces that would work beautifully in the garage and bring even more organisation to your life.

1. Lighting - Philips Hue starter kit:

Philips’ Hue lights (and compatible ‘friends of Hue’ options) can be turned on using an app. You can change the colours and brightness, and sync them up with other apps so that you control up to 50 lights at a time. These lights work perfectly with our unique range of ceiling panels when integrated with ceiling lighting boxes, creating the perfect lighting throughout you garage.

2. Security - Canary security system:

The Canary security system connects all of your smart devices together to make one main security system that can do a lot more. It’s very easy to set up and will monitor your house or garage whether your in or out of the house, watching for intruders and sending you videos of any irregular activity. It will also check in on the temperature and air quality using a set of built-in sensors, and send the details to your smart device.

3. Security - Yale Keyless Connected Smart Lock

If you have a smart home system like those made by Samsung, this lock placed on your garage interior door and can be triggered from your phone to open your door. If not, you can set PIN codes for visiting family members, or set it to open with a card or a fob.

4. Garage Door - Chamberlain Smart Garage Door Opener

Whilst you’d normally open your electronic garage door with the click of a specific key fob, the Chamberlain Smart Door Opener has built in Wi-Fi, allowing you to gain access to you garage through your smart phone or tablet device.

5. Temperature - Nest thermostat

Nest’s smart thermostat technology learns when you like your house to be warm or cold, and adjusts the heating accordingly. And if you don’t like that, all options are accessible from an app so that you can control the temperature of your home / garage from your smart phone or tablet.

We hope that this helps to give you an exciting array of ideas for how you can transform your garage with smart devices. Next month our style guide will be taking a look at how you can create a more unique garage environment with textures, materials and flooring.
